சர்வதேச ரீதியில் சிறுவர் மற்றும் முதியோர் தினம் இன்று (01) அனுஷ்டிக்கப்படுகிறது.

சிறுவர்களுக்கு இடையே புரிந்துணர்வையும் பொது நிலைப்பாட்டையும் ஏற்படுத்துவதை நோக்காக கோண்டு  14.12.1954 அன்று ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் பொதுச் சபைக் கூட்டத்தில் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்ட யோசனைக்கு அமைய ஒக்டோபர் முதலாம் திகதி உலக சிறுவர் தினம் பிரகடனப்படுத்தப்பட்டது.

அன்று தொடங்கி இன்று வரை உலகம் முழுவதிலும் ஒக்டோபர் 01 ஆம் திகதி சிறுவர்களுக்குரிய தினமாக கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.

இதேவ‍ேளை இன்று உலக முதியோர் தினமும் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.

1990 ஆம் ஆண்டு டிசம்பர் மாதம் 14 ஆம் திகதி ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் பொதுச் சபைக் கூட்டத்தில் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட தீர்மானத்திற்கு அமைவாகவே இந்தத் தினம் அனுஷ்டிக்கப்படுகின்றது.

 60 வயதுக்கு மேற்பட்டவர்கள் முதியோர்களாக கருதப்படுகின்றனர்.

முதியோர்களும் தமது காலத்தில் குழந்தைகள் சிறுவர்கள் போல் உள்ளதாலோ என்னவோ இந்த இரு தினங்களும் ஒரே நாளில் கொண்டாடப்பட்டு வருகின்றமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

International Children and Elderly Day is observed today (01).

The World Children's Day was declared on the first day of October as a result of the idea passed in the United Nations General Assembly meeting on 14.12.1954 to create understanding and common ground between children.

From that day until today, October 1st is celebrated as Children's Day all over the world.

Today, World Older People's Day is celebrated.

This day is celebrated as a result of the decision made by the United Nations General Assembly on 14th December 1990.

People above 60 years of age are considered elderly.

It is noteworthy that these two days are celebrated on the same day because the elderly are like children in their time.
